I completed specialist medical training with North Western Mental Health in Melbourne. I completed advanced specialist training at the Werribee Mercy Mother Baby outpatient clinic, Royal Women’s Hospital and Albert Road Clinic.
I am a Consultant Psychiatrist at Sunshine Hospital, where I set up and am currently leading the multidisciplinary Perinatal Mental Health Service. There, I provide psychiatric assessments and treatment advice for women admitted to the Joan Kirner building at Sunshine Hospital, as well as the maternity outpatient clinics. I also enjoy providing supervision and mentoring to my team as well as psychiatry trainees, and advocating within the hospital system for the mental health of parents.
I have also held an appointment at the Bendigo Parent Infant Unit, which, as their initial psychiatrist, I helped set up. There, I provided inpatient psychiatric care for new parents.
I hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Monash University, a Masters degree in Psychiatry from Melbourne University and I am a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.
I am passionate about the mental health and wellbeing of women before, during and after pregnancy. I believe the mental health of mothers affects the health of the whole family and I am committed to supporting the mental health of families through this important time.
I consult on psychiatric issues and medication relevant to the perinatal period which may include:
I provide holistic care and seek to understand the biological, psychological, social and cultural aspects of a person’s presentation in order to provide individualised treatment.
After taking a detailed and sensitive history, I collaborate with patients and families in formulating the right treatment for their needs, whether it be talking therapy, medications or both.
